If there ever comes a time when you need to have a tooth pulled, you want to visit a general dentistry practice in Colorado Springs that’s caring, gentle, and professional. Our team does everything to ensure each patient getting an extraction receives the proper care they deserve.
One of the most common reasons someone may need a tooth extraction is because of irreparable damage. This can either be from trauma or deep tooth decay. Here are a few other reasons a dentist may recommend an extraction:
Before the extraction, your dentist will administer anesthesia to reduce discomfort and feelings of anxiety during the treatment. If your tooth is impacted, they will need to cut open the gums and bone covering the tooth to access it. Your dentist will then use special tools to loosen and pull the tooth from the socket. Some instances may require the tooth to be extracted in parts.
After the procedure, your dentist will close the incision with self-dissolving stitches. Bleeding is expected, and it’s essential to let the area clot to promote healing. Avoid hot foods or drinking through a straw until after recovery is complete. You may control excess bleeding by biting down on gauze.
If the blood clot breaks loose and exposes the jawbone to open air, it can lead to a painful condition called dry socket. Please contact our office if this happens so we can fix it right away. You and your dentist may also discuss possible tooth-replacement options after you’ve healed.
At Esthetic Family Dentistry, we care about your health and comfort, which is why we do everything to make extractions as stress-free as possible. Please contact our office if you have any questions!
