Our team is committed to protecting your teeth and oral health so you can have a beautiful smile for life. Sometimes, patients may need to have their wisdom teeth removed to achieve this. At Esthetic Family Dentistry, our Colorado Springs dentists ensure your wisdom teeth removal surgery is as safe and comfortable as possible.
Your third molars, commonly referred to as wisdom teeth, typically erupt during your late teenage years or early twenties. They don’t necessarily serve a purpose to humans today since we’ve evolved from needing more chewing power for more coarse foods. In fact, most wisdom teeth erupt at an angle and can cause inconvenience, pain, and other issues due to the lack of space in the back of your mouth.
An x-ray can determine when your wisdom teeth begin to grow before they fully erupt.
Fortunately, not everyone will experience the issues of discomfort from their wisdom teeth. Your dentist will recommend having them removed if they notice any of the following concerns:
In the few hours after your wisdom teeth removal, you should avoid anything hot, hard, or carbonated. You may also experience swelling and discomfort as the anesthesia wears off, both of which can be maintained with ice packs and your prescribed pain medication. Be sure to gently brush the area to keep it clean.
Contact our office right away if you’re experiencing uncontrollable bleeding, discomfort, a rash, or if you have any additional questions.
If you think it may be time to remove your wisdom teeth, let the experts at Esthetic Family Dentistry help. Contact our office today if you have any questions or to schedule a consultation with our oral surgeon!
